I think slow cooker meals should be done in the slow cooker! So forget all the steps! Toss all ingredients into the slow cooker. Give it a stir and then cook it on low for the suggested time. It's so good and you don't have to do all the individual steps. Add the cornstarch at the end and stir. Serve over rice. Better than take-out!!

This was an easy, delicious and healthy dinner. As some others did, I used low sodium soy sauce and that seemed about right for saltiness. I wanted to stay true to the original recipe but I did reduce the sugar to 1/4 cup (watching sugar carbs) and also added 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes to give it a little zing. Rather than steam the broccoli, I just added it right after adding the cornstarch slurry and it was perfect after 30 minutes! I'll definitely make this again - next time I may add sliced onion near the beginning of the cooking and red pepper strips with the broccoli.

My whole family enjoyed this, even the one who says he doesn't like Chinese food. He ate the most of all of us! I used Better than Boullion, light soy sauce, garlic powder and a flank steak, because that's what I had on hand and it still turned out delicious and we didn't think too salty. I also threw in a sliced sweet onion like another reviewer suggested. Great, easy recipe with very minimal prep that I will be making again. The sauce is thinner and less sticky than restaraunt style broccoli beef, but no complaints here anyway.

I followed the ingredients and directions EXACTLY except I used lower sodium soy sauce because that's all I ever use. This was still very salty. I think I would leave out the bouillion next time or use low sodium beef broth instead. Other than that, there are no adjustments needed. I will make this again.

This was very good. My family liked it. The only change I made is to substitute oyster sauce for half of the soy sauce. I also used 2 sixteen ounce bags of frozen broccoli florets instead of fresh broccoli. I found that after cooking 6 hours on LOW the thinly sliced beef I used had fallen apart mostly. But that was ok. If you want your beef to hold together more in slices it's probably best to only cook for 4-5 hours or use thick chunks of beef instead of slicing it thin like you would for a regular stir fry. The sauce never thickened for me, but I didn't bother cooking it down in a sauce pan. There was plenty of juciness for the quinoa I served this with to soak up!! I will make this again. Leftovers are great!
01/18/2016
Cooked on high 4 hours and then added cornstarch mixture and small broccoli florets for another 30 minutes. Beef stew meat was excellent! Next time I will wait until 15 before finish to add the small broccoli florets though as they didn't have much crunch left.

Such an easy prep-ahead or freezer meal. Throw all ingredients except the water, corn starch, broccoli, and rice into a freezer bag and freeze until you need an easy meal. When ready to use put in slow cooker with the water and follow your recipe from there! A new favorite at our house! This can easily be turned into a gluten-free meal by using gluten-free soy sauce!

I was looking for an easy yet healthful dinner--this was it! The whole family enjoyed it. I did use beef stew meat--which made it even easier.
01/08/2015
Fantastic! I made 1.5 times the sauce the second time around because the first time I made it, it cooked down and wasn't quite as sloppy as I like. I also used lite soy sauce - had it, didn't know why, never thought I'd use it, so this was a good excuse. The second time around, my husband bought stir-fry meat, so it was in very thin strips. This cut out about an hour from the high cooking time, which was nice because I always think to use the slow cooker at like 3 p.m. Great recipe - can't wait to make it for company! Thanks!
01/04/2016
The taste was very good but a little on the salty side as other reviewers mentioned. I also made a couple modifications. Like many others, I used 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce and then 1/4 cup oyster sauce to give it a bit more flavor and help with the saltiness. I also added some minced ginger root and instead of steaming the broccoli, I just tossed it into the crock pot like 20-30 minutes to the end. It seems to defeat the purpose of the crock pot a little it if you have to use additional pots/pans, and this way worked just fine. Solid recipe. Will definitely be making it again.

I used very thin sliced beef. I cooked it on high for 1 hr., then cooked it on low for another 3 hrs. I used organic beef broth and low sodium soy sauce. I used 3 cloves of garlic, but I think it could have used 4. The sauce didn't thicken in the crock pot, so next time I will use the suggestion of thickening the sauce on the stove. *Update* Made this again and used a can of beef gravy and a couple tablespoons of water instead of the bullion and water. Used very thin sliced beef and cooked it on high for 3 hrs, adding the cornstarch and water at 2 hrs and 30 min. The consistency was thick enough without having to thicken the sauce on the stove.

As one member commented I also just put everything in the slow cooker except veggies without any prep work which saved about a half hour and dirty dishes ( I did add peapods, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots along with the broccoli after 4 hrs. ( we like our veggies crunchy) and cooked on low for 4 hrs. stirring every couple hours and then added the veggies and cooked another 3 hrs. and it came out awesome. However I will make about 50% more sauce next time.
02/25/2016
Made it with half the soy sauce called for (using reduced sodium soy sauce) and the flavor was tasty but too weak. Try making the recipe with the full amount of soy sauce to increase flavor. Also, I just steamed the broccoli in the microwave--much easier, and omitted the sesame oil. Cooked the meat (only 1 pound) in the slow cooker on high for about 2-3 hours.
09/03/2014
I didn't use 1/2cup soy sauce, bc people commented on it being salty. I used 1/4cup and it was delicious!!
02/11/2015
I used beef broth, and top round steak. I left out the sesame oil. I also made my own fried rice. A very tasty dish!
08/16/2016
Ok so I followed this exactly and my husband and I did not like this at all. I mean like really didn't like it. Too salty, and just a bad overall taste. Cornstarch did not thicken mine at all, even after being on high for 30 minutes. Some of you were obviously able to get a tasty result, but I was not.
05/07/2015
Love this recipe, nothing to change but I do add red peppers and green peppers for more flavor.
08/12/2014
Super easy and delicious! I wish the sauce was thicker though
10/26/2016
Used 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1/4 cup brown sugar. It turned out beautifully! I put the uncooked broccoli directly in the slow cooker for the last 10 minutes My husband, who is a fussy eater, raved about it. In fact, he went on and on about it and had three servings! I will definitely make it again.
02/08/2015
This was just like if we ordered takeout and super easy!
02/26/2016
I made it exactly like instructed and it wasn't too salty like some said. I did use low sodium soy sauce though. It was very good and my kids enjoyed it to. I didn't know it was a Chinese dish never had Chinese food. :-)
08/16/2015
I made it and I can't cook but my husband loved it. It came out delicious!!! Will make again.
07/11/2017
I received a lot of compliments with this recipe. I added sliced onions and mushrooms to it. I decided to add the broccoli about half way through cooking time, and the onions and mushrooms about an hour after that. Next time I may do the broccoli as the original recipe states, because they lost their green color- soaking up the brown sauce too long, or being cooked too long.
05/27/2016
family of 5 loved it. ages 11-55
11/23/2014
My whole family loved this! I added more broccoli, water chestnuts & ginger.
10/15/2015
WONDERFUL! I HAD TO THICKEN THE SAUCE A BIT AND I CUT BACK ON THE SOY, BUT THIS IS A KEEPER!!!!
02/27/2017
Absolutely delicious! We sautéed and added baby Bella mushrooms at the end. The next time I make this, I'll be sure to have some fresh bread to go with it. I cooked about 8 hours and the meat melted.
03/04/2019
This is one of my favorites. I add water chestnuts and bamboo shoots just for the crunch.
08/18/2017
This recipe does not need any changes. It was an absolute hit with my family! Tonight I am making it again, but didn't have bouillon, so I am using a can of beef consume in place of it and am anxious to see if it turns out as well. Such an easy dish to make with outstanding flavor, you can't go wrong giving this a try
09/03/2016
This was so easy to make and it came out amazing. I can't wait to make it again.
10/24/2017
My finicky fam loved it as is. Just one note: video shows about a cup of cooking liquid to the 2 Tablespoons of cornstarch. Written directions say differently. Do it like the video and it will thicken up perfectly!
10/25/2016
Too salty and I didn't even use the beef bouillon because that seemed inconceivable.
03/29/2018
The sauce is perfect! I did use a reduced sodium soy sauce. Got home late. Tossed in some leftover sautéed peppers & onions. Cooked some rice. Got changed, had a glass of wine. Scooped rice into bowls, ladled beef mixture from crock pot over top & enjoyed! Did not have /add thickening agent- no need. Delicious! Make it again good!!! Thanks.
09/24/2017
I used chopped broccoli instead and used low sodium soy sauce. Had to double the recipe due to feeding 8. Smelled just like take out but cost me way less. #happy mom.
07/19/2014
Delicious! Hubby said this ones a keeper!
11/11/2015
fIrst time my hubby ate every piece of brocolli on his plate. Loved this!
09/30/2014
There was not much flavour to this recipe.
08/18/2018
Edible, not restaurant quality. I will not make again
01/08/2018
Simply delicious, the whole family loved it.
08/25/2014
This was really good but salty and the sauce was not as thick as I would have liked. I used far free low sodium beef broth and low sodium soy sauce. Will definitely make it again.
07/06/2016
I used a sirloin tip roast and pulled it apart. Also added chilli flakes to it. My husband loved it served on rice.
06/06/2016
Neither my husband nor I cared for this ..we didn't like the sugary taste.
07/23/2018
This dish had really good flavor although a bit on the salty side. I'll use low sodium soy sauce next time. Definitely a keeper.
09/25/2018
Wasn't too crazy about this
04/27/2018
yum
03/20/2020
Fantastic! Made it nearly as-is and wouldn't change anything next time. Used 1.5 lbs of boneless beef short ribs (3 pieces) and 3 large heads of broccoli. Salt&peppered the beef, sliced it and then seared the sides, and then cooked the beef w/ sauce on slow cooker mode of the instant pot ("normal" temp) for 8 hrs and they came out so incredibly tender. Steamed the rice and broccoli separately when it was close to dinnertime. Served with crushed peanuts.
12/17/2017
What a great recipe!
07/04/2016
This is a nice fire-and-forget recipe when you want something Asian. Ingredients are easy to find. You may need to add a little extra corn starch to get the juices to thicken. The type of soy you use will change the overall flavor. Better soy means better flavor retention.
12/23/2018
I doubled the recipe and fed 9 people!
11/08/2017
way too salty flavor for me
02/09/2020
I doubled the recipe and it was fantastic. My wife couldn't get enough it seemed
03/30/2017
Other than adding some red pepper, we followed the recipe exactly. Very, very good. Will definately make this again.
08/28/2017
Easy? Yes. Smells amazing? Yes. Flavor on point? Not quite. While everything was pretty good, it tasted just a little bit off, like it was missing something but I'm not sure what. I did use low sodium soy sauce and sodium free beef bullion so it wasn't too salty. Overall, decent quick prep meal.
04/24/2016
This was very good but be careful if cooking in a slow cooker, my meat just about disappeared because it was so tender. This was a very good flavored dish! Will make again.
09/23/2014
Followed the recipe. I think it was good but salty. I will use less of the soy sauce next time around. Will definitely be making this again.
02/20/2019
Followed ingredients, but did what others suggested and threw the broccoli in when cornstarch was added. Very good! Next time I would add onion and definitely increase the sauce. I used low sodium soy sauce and did not think it was too salty as other reviewers say. Topped with some sriracha sauce to add a little kick. Note: not sure if sirloin is a necessary expenditure. I think next time I would use stew meat or round.
01/18/2017
Awesome tasting dish. Love how simple it is to make this meal. Thank you!!
02/22/2017
Followed the recipe with a few additions. Some fresh Onion slices, Fresh mushrooms, and red pepper flakes. Cut the soy sauce in half and used oyster sauce as others suggested. Used corn starch and made a roux when the corstarch failed. Neither was successful in thickening my sauce. Used frozen Broccoli florets. Still amazing and will make again!
05/27/2017
Made it just like recipe. Yummy!
11/12/2019
Quick and easy to make. I used minced garlic instead of garlic cloves.
01/25/2016
We liked this recipe, thank you. I followed the directions exactly. Was a bit too sweet for our taste. If I make it again in the future, I'd reduce the sweetener, or perhaps adjust the soy sauce. Served it with green salads & warmed up 12 grain dinner rolls. It was quick to assemble in the crock pot which I appreciated.
05/18/2019
I substituted garlic flavored olive oil for the sesame oil. I made the slow cooker beef as written. I didn't thicken the sauce. I ladled it out and used it for stir fry sauce. I used 1 bag of frozen stir fry vegetables, thawed. When these were done I added a half package of cooked whole wheat angel hair pasta. Then I dumped the beef with any remaining sauce into the wok and combined all until well mixed and coated with sauce. I served this as lo mein without rice.
06/06/2016
Made it exactly as specified with the exception of using low sodium soy sauce. We loved the taste and texture. I will start to play with it now - I want to add onions, I think ,and ginger. I did not mess with the sugar - the salty/sweet contrast is key in this one.
05/03/2017
I give this 5 stars because it was easy to make and super tasty.
02/22/2018
A very tasty, easy recipe. I followed the recipe as is but I found it more salty than I liked. The rest of the family, however, gobbled it up - even the not big on broccoli fans! The recipe was a really nice addition to a chinese-themed-meal for a family dinner. I found it was very convenient to have this main dish cooking in the slow cooker when prepping/cooking the rest of the dinner on the stove.
01/24/2017
really tasty we used county beef Spare ribs for the meat, talk about fall apart in your mouth. that was the only change awesome
05/07/2018
Very good recipe. I did use sliced stir fry beef and frozen broccoli just for convenience. Would make again.
04/05/2016
Turned out great. As others did, I added 1\4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes, used 1/4 brown sugar and used 1/4 soya sauce and 1/4 oyster sauce. I also just put the broccoli directly in the slow cooker approx in last 30mins of cooking
01/10/2018
This was a hit for the whole family! I don't like steamed broccoli, so I went ahead and roasted it like my family likes it but other than that, no changes made. Highly recommend it
11/11/2015
Family loved this. I followed the suggestion of another reviewer and added some crushed red pepper flakes. Next, I am going to try this with chicken broth and chicken instead of the beef.
03/15/2016
I did something I've never done and I added my instant rice to the crock pot to cook with the meat. I just added extra water. Worked great! I used instant brown rice. I used stew meat too. We liked this, it was really easy with my short cuts......The second time I made the mistake of using long grain brown rice and I had to add a lot of water and keep it on high for 3 hours to get the rice cooked. Once cooked, I turned it down to low and stirred in thawed broccoli.
08/21/2015
I made this as is. It was ok at best. It had an amazing smokey smell, though-- my daughter and I were very excited to try it. Being Asian, I prefer my Asian-inspired foods to taste atleast a little bit familiar. My daughter said it tasted like teriyaki beef jerky, and she was spot on. I gave it 3 stars because my daughter at least ate it.
02/26/2018
I will definitely be making this dish again. My family enjoyed it and they are really picky eaters.
03/14/2016
So easy and delicious, I'll teach my 13-year-old how to make this! A wee bit salty, may try low-sodium soy sauce next time. Also thought some green onions added to it and peanuts sprinkled on top might be good!
09/17/2017
I made it for dinner last evening. Didn't have a large enough piece of meat, so I took advice of other reviewers & added onions, green peppers & more garlic, oh & a little more brown sugar after tasting sauce. I will play with the sauce a wee bit more next time I prepare it, could be improved for our taste. Served over rice with Asian Slaw. Thanks for the post!
07/15/2020
Excellent!! I used beef broth instead of water and boullion but otherwise followed the recipe exactly.
08/16/2015
Followed the exact recipe except for the rice (I used white). Cooked on high for 4 hours and the meat was very tender! I will make this again. There was barely any prep and it was so goooood!!
10/04/2021
well i must say ours turned out fantastic! I ended up making a few changes 1. used Goya powdered bullion Beef! 1 packet. 2. used low sodium soy sauce 1/2 cup 3, frozen broccoli florettes put them in after 2 hours 4. used 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 table spoons of flour to make it thicker But in order to make it thicker i had to pull the broth and do broth on stove its faster for thickening It came out perfect very nice taste not salty! Hubby is going to love it Thanks again!!!
05/19/2021
Love this recipe! Easy and taste like a restaurant made it. Mom and Dad thought it was take out!
11/04/2020
This was so delish. Definitely don't put the veggies in at the beginning, like i did :( I used frozen trio peppers and frozen broccoli and they basically desentigted
12/12/2020
We really enjoyed it, and the meat melted in your mouth. It tasted better than going to a restaurant. I used low sodium soy sauce, I used angus sirloin beef, and I added the broccoli into the crockpot about 30-40minutes before it would be ready instead of steaming it. It came out perfectly.
03/12/2018
I panicked a little when I opened the slow cooker because it didn't look like enough to feed 3 people; however, after adding the broccoli, it was plenty. The family loved this...delicious!
01/13/2020
I really wanted to love this but it just turned out like a roast. The meat became shredded when you stirred it and I had to add some extra seasonings because it was kind of bland. The family liked it ok, no one complained. I do know that Chinese food is about quick and hot cooking so slow and low is probably not the best way to prepare.
04/10/2016
I used a bigger beef roast and added more soy sauce 1 cup. It was great tasting and very easy to make.
10/13/2017
My family and I liked this recipe. I added onions to it and used fresh broccoli. Will make again.
02/21/2018
I used a piece if London Broil, it is what I had, I over cooked slightly but followed the recipe and it was delicious! I will make again.
01/04/2017
It was delicious as-is! Next time I make it I plan to add some ginger for more of a zing. Otherwise it was great.
11/10/2016
I followed the directions, but my meat was so over cooked that it totally fell apart. It reminded me of broccoli with beef gravy. And I thought the flavor a tad bland. Probably won't make it again.
09/11/2018
Delicious and easy to make! Yummy!
08/24/2018
Even with low sodium soy sauce, it is somewhat salty. Also, my beef "shredded" and didn't turn stay in the "planks" I'd cut it in to. Tastes okay.
07/31/2018
This came out tasting very good, Followed the recipe except I used a chuck roast and 2 packages of microwaveable broccoli florets. Easier and less costly.
09/11/2017
Very tart. Way too much soy sauce. Definitely missing something. I won't make again:
08/06/2018
Didn't make any changes and it was delicious!! Didn't find it salty like others had mentioned but did use low sodium soy sauce. Will be keeping this one!
09/30/2019
Needed ginger
11/15/2018
Add some ginger paste...and is great using gluten free soy sauce...
08/27/2015
Sauce was really on point, very good, but Make Sure you reduce the Soy sauce to only a few splashes! I will be making this again on the stove top with chicken
01/03/2015
Loved it and so did the whole family. I have tried many beef & broccoli recipes, and I have to say that is this is our favorite
09/23/2018
So easy to make and very tasty. My family just loved it. I will definitely be making it again.
12/02/2015
I followed this recipe exactly except for substituting beef for chicken. It was very tasty.
